The paths of these two teams to the Stanley Cup were very different. The Detroit Redwings were a powerhouse all season long, challenging for the President’s Cup for the entire season. The Pittsburgh Penguins sucked for most of the year. But they got hot when it counted and started blowing away the competition.

Pittsburgh played well in the earlier playoff rounds but were never really tested. The Red Wings had that epic 7 game series with the Anaheim Ducks back in the second round.

This will be a great series with Lidstrom, Zetterberg, Hossa, Frazen, Draper and Osgood taking on Crosby and Malkin.

The Carolina Hurricanes downed the mighty Boston Bruins in yet another 7 game matchup. Scott Walker’s overtime game winner sent Marc Savard and Tim Thomas home crying. Damn babies.

This 2009 NHL Eastern Conference Finals will be a slugfest with Pittsburg trying to get back to the finals and the Hurricanes wanting to stop them.
